.....Unbelieveable....

Sam's Food & Spirits, New Albany, Indiana - the social gathering place of
the Corn Island Steampunk Society
suffered from a major fire last night around midnight.

Please keep Sam and his employees in your thoughts and prayers
during this difficult time during the holidays
and let's hope for some kind of recovery.

They always welcomed us there with open arms.

Thanks to all who came out to the Oldham County Library in Lagrange, Kentucky for
A Steampunk Holiday

It was also nice to work it alongside
Dr. Robert and his Traveling Odditorium
of gizmos and gadgets.
It seemed as though we were well recieved
and I was surprised at just how many attendees actually knew what Steampunk was/is.

Friday, November 29, 2013

If you can make it, Great!
Come on out and join us
and support your group,
the Corn Island Steampunk Society

Hope to see ya there!

As you go about your day, whether you are working or spending time with family & friends, know that we are thankful for your support and contributions to make this group possible in every way.

And with that, on behalf of the Corn Island Steampunk Society, I wish to extend Season's Greetings and a Happy Thanksgiving to you wherever you are, in whichever time dimension.

Be safe,
* Sam

My hat is off to you all for making this such a great group.
And with that, I would also like to wish each and every one of you
a very safe and Merry Christmas season and we'll see ya in January.

Blue Skies & Best Wishes,
* Sam

Our last meetup of 2013 is tonight so GET YOUR STEAMPUNK ON! and come out and join us for some good camaraderie and fellowship fun. I am going to ask that each one of you write down the most memorable experience you had this year. What meant the most to you as a member of this group? It could be an event. It could be the fabulous food at Sam's. It could be the wonderful door prizes or it could be just belonging to the BEST Steampunk group in this area. Anything. We want to hear it.

But most of all, come out and join us.
Saturday, November 16th

Sam Sprocket's outfit for the Halloween Cruise aboard the Belle of Louisville.
Spooky Time Traveler.

To make the coat look old and worn, last minute I remembered an article I read
back in the 80's asking ZZ Top how they got their outfits so dusty and
they claimed they simply doused them with baby powder.  It worked!

They say you should end the year with a BANG!
and that's just what we did last night at our last event for 2013,
The Halloween Scaryoke & Dance Cruise aboard the world's oldest operating
Mississippi River - style steamboat, the Belle of Louisville.
Thanks to all who came out to celebrate with us, it was a Blast!

Our next meetup and last one for 2013
is scheduled for Saturday, November 16th
5:30 - 7:30
Sam's Food & Spirits

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Thanks to all who made it out to another magical evening with the Corn Island Steampunk Society, our year is winding down but we've grown which is good.
Welcome to all our new members and to those who have stuck with us along the way,
I thank you for keeping the dream a reality and I hope to see many of you at our last event of the year,
the Halloween Scaryoke Cruise aboard the Belle of Louisville next Friday. 7:30 pm.
.....It's all about the steam

Belle of Louisville Halloween Scaryoke & Dance Cruise
Like it.  Copy It.  Paste It and Share.
But most of all.....Just Be There!!!

Bring your family & friends
and we'll see ya on the 25th
(Boarding begins at 7:30 p.m.)

Saturday, October 12, 2013

A great photo was taken over the weekend in the Highlands of Louisville of
Mad Mary Hatchet and Samuel Keystone Sprocket
as they attended the Caufield's Halloween Parade 2013.
Grand Marshal of this year's parade was Butch Patrick, famous for playing
the role of little Eddie Munster on the hit TV show The Munsters,

One week from tonight (Saturday, October 19th), we will meet for our October meetup at Sam's Food & Spirits on Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana and I hope to see everyone there once again as our year is fast winding to a close.
Two meetups (October & November) and one BIG event (the Belle of Louisville Halloween Scaryoke & Dance Cruise) left for 2013.  The year has been good to us as we've grown tremendously and had loads of fun and camaraderie in doing so.
We will be taking December off due to the holidays and to give us a chance to regroup and make plans for things happening in 2014.  At any rate, I hope you will join me in letting this year go out with a Bang! and I will see you next weekend.
Until then,
* Sam

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Thanks to all who came out and helped us kick off the Halloween season with
the Louisville Ghostwalk Tour
with our host, Robert Parker (pictured here with us above).
Only two more meetups (October & November) and one more event (the Belle Cruise) left for us in 2013,
we will be taking December off for the holidays and return again in 2014.
Hope to see ya before then.

While attending the 2013 Old West Fest Steampunk Weekend in Ohio this past Sunday,
I entered my Victorian era Mobile Phone in the Inventors Contraption Contest
and won Best of Show.
Best Oddity - Dr. Robert
Best of Show - Sam Sprocket
Best Weapon - Mr. Tesla

The Victorian era Mobile Phone was invented by Professor J. Phineas Bullock (only because someone had written their name, Bullock, on the straps in permanent marker when I purchased them from Goodwill) in 1878 and has the canvas backpack straps for mobility, the antenna for reception...it's a mobile phone. It operates off of Aether crystals but the good Professor was off traveling in time and I had no way of contacting him to find out just how to charge the crystals so that I could demonstrate just how it works.
......and the rest is history.

The year was 1778, during the American Revolutionary War, when George Rogers Clark, his militia and 60 non-military civilians settled on this ground he named "Corn Island" which later moved to the shoreline of the Ohio river and became known as Louisville, Kentucky.

With that, we'd like to honor George Rogers Clark by naming this group after him for discovering that tiny island that later became known as our home, Louisville, Kentucky.

It is not truly known when exactly the Corn Island Steampunk Society was established
therefore the date is set at 188?

However, Corn Island was established in 1778 during the American Revolutionary War when George Rogers Clark, his militia and 60 non-militant civilians settled on this tiny island on the Ohio River which later moved to the shorelines and became known as Louisville, Kentucky.

Being a river settlement has had it’s advantages as far as monetary and economic growth. With a riverboat life rich in the history of river culture, one may find life along the river leading to gambling halls, horse racing and the seedy establishments of the Hay Market of downtown Louisville while others may see it as a rest stop on the way to the Circle City Aerodrome of Indianapolis or the Queens City of Cincinnati with it’s League of Steam, all of which are vital parts of
Midwest Steampunk Alliance.

The Corn Island Steampunk Society provides an active central hub for local as well as out-of-town Steampunk enthusiasts with monthly meetups and atleast 3 events a year.

Further information can be obtained via email at;
CornIslandSteampunk@gmail.com
